Evaluation Of Corrosion Nickel Titanium-Niti Wire

Objective:  The objective of this study was to evaluate the corrosion with fluoride and kapo juice in Niti orthodontic  wire.

Method:  Selected 2 niti wire: Abzil and Forestadent with 20mm length and were divided into 3 groups ( control, fluoride and kapo). First it has been analyzed the pH of the fluoride and the kapo, after the fluoride group was immersion  1 hour in acidulate phosphate fluoride 1,23% ( Flúor Gel DFL ®) and the group kapo was immersion 1 hour in orange juice (Kapo - coca cola®).  Used Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Anova and Tukey test ( p< 0,05), were used to analyse the groups.

Result:  Obtained as a result more corrosion with group kapo  in the properties Titanium .

Conclusion:  The alterations in this study  fluoride and kapo with  acide pH  , change the wire properties in  both wires ( Abzil and Forestadent) and  patients in orthodontic treatment with a diet with  acidic pH or use of fluoride mouthwash can cause corrosion in the  properties of Niti wires used in its treatment.
