Influence of Sodium Fluoride on TMA Wire

Objective: To evaluate corrosion topographically and surface composition of TMA wire when immersed in sodium fluoride solution.

Method: 20 mm wires (n=3) were immersed in diluted sodium fluoride solution for 90 minutes and then evaluated by SEM/EDS thus obeying the behavior of the main components of the alloy. P<0.05 for ANOVA/Tukey's test.

Result: Mean values of the element Titanium (Ti) after immersion in sodium fluoride was significantly lower than the values found in the control group, as well as hear a significant increase in Tin (Sn) and Molybdenum (Mo) elements after immersion in fluoride than in the control group.

Conclusion: Sodium Fluoride acts  significantly on TMA reducing the amount of Ti and increasing the amount of Sn and Mo.
