Method: A survey of the paracoccidioidomycosis cases diagnosed by lesions of the mouth (histopathology and cytology) in the years 2005 to 2011 by the public oral pathology laboratory of the National Public Health System (SUS) in Mato Grosso , Brazil, was carried out. The results were then crossed with the spatial database server maps provided by the Secretary of State for Planning and Coordination of the State of Mato Grosso. Spatial analysis was performed using the Idrisi Taiga software.
Result: Among the 125 cases diagnosed during the study period, 98.40% were men. The mean age was 50.34 years (± 12.17 years) and 77.60% of cases were diagnosed by histopathology. 84.00% of the cases were from areas with compromised water quality. 64.80% of the cases came from municipalities with annual average temperature between 24.1 ° C and 25 ° C, 60.80% are in the Amazon River basin and 55.20% of the cases occurred in the Amazon biome. There were no cases of paracoccidioidomycosis in natives areas.
Conclusion: Considering the methodology and the results found in this study, it seems reasonable to conclude that environmental characteristics influence the prevalence of cases of paracoccidioidomycosis.
