Composite resins: effect of staining solutions, carbamide peroxide and mouthrinses
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of four staining solutions (SS): coffee, grape juice, Green tea and açaí, on the color stability of four composite resins (CR): A (Amelogen Plus / Ultradent), F (Filtek Z350 XT/3M ESPE), C (Charisma/ Opal/ Heraeus/Kulser). e G (Grandio SO / Voco GmbH), after being submitted to a surface treatment with mouthrinses(MR): Listerine Whitening, J&J; Plax Whitening Tartar Control, Colgate and Oral B Pró-saúde, Oral B; and a bleaching agente (BA), Carbamide Peroxide 10% (Opalescence PF 10% Regular – Ultradent Products Inc.).
Method: One hundred discs of each CR were made and sorted out into subgroups according to the MR, BA and control group (saliva). After the previous treatment with the MR and BA, the CR discs were immersed in the SS for 24h. Three color measurements were performed with a reflectance spectrophotometer (Konica, Minolta). Statistical analysis: ANOVA and Turkey tests.
Result: The results showed: (1) the CR influenced the color stability, with the highest average color variation for the group F (Filtek Z350 XT/3M ESPE); (2) the MR increased the color alteration susceptibility of the CR, with the highest average color change for the Oral B mouthrinse; (3) the BA was statistically similar to the control group; and (4) all SS influenced the CR color stability, with the highest staining degree being of the grape juice.
Conclusion: There is a difference in the degree of staining of the composite resins. Mouthrinses and staining solutions interfere with the color stability of composite resins.
