Retrospective Observation Of 97 Cases Zirconia Restorations Fabricated By CAD/CAM

Objective:

To observe the fabrication process of all the 97 cases Zirconia restorations, and retrospective describe the experiences of details during fabrication in dental laboratory.

Method:

The 97 Zirconia restorations were fabricated by KAVO Everest CAD/CAM system. All the details of fabricating processes, including scanning, design and cutting, were observed and the data was step by step analyzed to evaluate the effection of restorations and to explore the influence factors during CAD/CAM fabricating.

Result:

As the results, we fund that one Zirconia block fall out of the embedding wax during cutting process in 1 case, the warped move happened after sintering in 1 case of upper anterior 4-unit bridge, and one Zirconia block fractured during cutting process in 1 case of upper anterior 3-unit bridge. All these restorations were refabricated to solve the problems. After the fabrication of veneer porcelain, all the Zirconia frame all ceramic restoration can achieve good esthetic effection.

Conclusion:

Some disadvantages of CAD/CAM systems, such as precision, details during cutting, and high price of Zirconia block,  still need to improve. But the use of high strength Zirconia in all-ceramic restoration can obviously extend the clinical application of all-ceramic restoration range.
