Antifungic Effect of Peruvian Propolis on Candida growth

Objective: The main of the present study is to evaluate the antifungic effect of ethanolic extract of propolis from Oxapampa in vitro when is confronted with Candida albicans ATTC 90028, Candida glabrata ATCC 90030 and Candida krusei ATCC 6258 yeasts and controlled in 24, 48 and 120 hours.

Method: The Agar dilution in plate’s method was used, with positive and negative control. Observations in a period of time at 24, 48 and 120 hours were done. It could be observed the complete inhibition of Candida albicans yeasts and partial inhibition in the growth of other Candida types (p<0,05).

Result: Ethanolic extract of propolis from Oxapampa with Minimal Inhibitory Concentration of 12 mg/ml in 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30% showed complete inhibition of growth in vitro against Candida albicans ATTC 90028.The ethanolic extract of propolis from Oxapampa showed partial inhibition of Candida glabrata ATCC 90030 y Candida krusei ATCC 6258 when these was observed at 24, 48 and 120 hours.

Conclusion: In conclusion, for this study we could say that the ethanolic extract of propolis has antifungic activity against Candida albicans ATTC 90028 yeasts in vitro.
