Celiac disease as a risk factor for gingival periodontal diseases

Objective: To identify whether celiac disease may be considered as a risk factor for the occurrence of periodontal and gingival diseases intake of calcium and vitamin C in the celiac population diagnosed in adulthood

Method: surveys were conducted asking about frequency of consumption of foods containing vitamin C and calcium and dental data. Records were made with the corresponding tooth prints and celiac periodontal indices of both sexes, aged 18 years diagnosed in adulthood.

Result: The 76.67% of the population suffers PGP owns 76.09% where the positive correlation between vitamin C intake and the occurrence of PGP.
Regarding the association between calcium intake and the occurrence of PGP, the 95.65% of the population (n = 49), presented positive association between intake of this nutrient deficient and the appearance of PGP.
80% of the population surveyed said periodontist not attend and only 8.33% with nutritional counseling

Conclusion: The malabsorption syndrome in celiac disease, reduces the absorption of macro and micronutrients, in this case in particular vitamin C, together with inadequate intake predisposes to the appearance of gingival periodontal diseases in the population diagnosed with celiac in adulthood.
Once a person diagnosed with celiac disease and most importantly celiac strict control of their diet based on a gluten-free diet for life. We believe that people with celiac disease, periodontal maintenance should attend every three months and nutrition consultations on a monthly basis in order to adapt feeding practices, and treatment appropriate to their needs.
