prevalence of Candida spp in women in menopause

Objective: to determine the impact of these declines hormone on periodontal health and microbiological changes during menopause

Method: We conducted a case study, the sample was a group of women between 45 and 55 immunocompetent, who have no menstrual cycle. Surveys were conducted with recording of risk factors were also assessed periodontal clinical indicators and samples were collected for microbiological studies. We excluded men, women who had ingested any medication in the last six months prior to sampling, and women whom it was performed a total hysterectomy.

Result: Within the genus Candida, there was an increased prevalence of C. followed by C. tropicalis albicans, C. parapsilosis, C.dubliensis, and a lower percentage krusei.

Conclusion:

Changes generated with menopause create an appropriate environment for the growth of yeasts in the oral cavity.
