Evaluation in vitro of differents protocols used for dental splinting
Objective: To evaluate differents protocols used for dental splinting on the bond strength of resin. Methods: 84 resin-composite blocks (Z250, 3M ESPE) (6x6x8mm) were obtained. Resin-composite blocks were randomly assigned into 7 groups (n=6/per group) according to the splitting protocol: G1: adhesive(A) (SingleBond-3M ESPE)+resin composite(RC) (Z250, 3M ESPE);G2: glass fiber (GF)(Voco Cuxhaven, Voco)+RC;G3: RC+GF+A;G4: RC+ flowable resin-composite (FR)(Grandio Flow, Voco)+GF+A; G5: RC+FR+GF+A; G6: RC+FR+GF+A; G7: RC+FR+GF. The blocks were sectioned with a diamond disk under coolant irrigation to obtain microbars with 0.8mm² of bonding area. Each bar was attached to an adapted device and the microtensile test was performed. Results: Dental splinting protocols resulted in significant differences among the groups (P<0.05) (One-way ANOVA and Tukey test, p=0.05). The mean bond strengths (MPa) were as follows: G1: 22.40±6.40a; G2: 3.90±1.19d; G3: 17.22±5.78ab; G4: 12.65±4.98 bc;G5: 6.40±2.54d; G6: 7.84±2.74 cd; G7: 12.17±4.98 bc Conclusion: The use of flowable resin composite or adhesive applied on glass fiber improved bond strength between glass fiber and resin composite.
