Effect of Different Surface Treatments on Bond Strenght to Zirconia
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength between self-adhesive resin cement and high-crystalline content zirconia after different chemical surface treatments on zirconia by shear bond strenght test. Methods: Sixty rectangular samples of zirconia were embedded in acrylic resin and divided into 6 groups (n=10) according to the surface treatments: G1 (Control) no surface treatment; G2- application of Alloy Primer; G3- application of Z-Primer; G4- application of solution of NaOH; G5- application of solution of NaOH combined with Alloy Primer; G6- application of solution of NaOH combined with Z-Primer. After the zirconia treatment, the cement RelyX U-100 was inserted directly onto these surfaces to make up a cube with 3mm in diameter and height. The samples were stored in distilled water for 24 hours prior to the test. The shear bond strength test was conducted with crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min in universal testing machine (EMIC). The Analysis ANOVA of one-way and the Tukey test (á=0,05) were used. Results: The groups G2(11,93 MPa) and G5 (12,7 MPa) showed significantly higher values than G3 (6,88 MPa), G4 (6,74 MPa) and G6 (5,85 MPa). The G1 (3,69 MPa) presented itself statistically lower than the other groups. Conclusions: The results shown suggest all chemical treatment evaluated by this study on zirconia surface may increase the bond strength between self-adhesive cement and high-crystalline content zirconia. However, the association of the solution of NaOH with Alloy Primer showed the best results in the methodology applied.
