Surface characteristic of new injectable composite resin

Objective: G-aenial Universal Flo (GUF, GC) was developed as an injectable nano-hybrid composite resin. Sixteen nm fumed silica and 200 nm strontium glass are used in GUF for superior polishing property. The purpose of this study was to investigate the gloss retention of GUF compared with other composite resins. Methods: GUF, Filtek Supreme Ultra (FSU,3M ESPE), Tetric EvoCeram (TEC,Ivoclar/Vivadent), TPH(TP, Dentsply) and Premise (PR,Kerr) as universal composite resins and Filtek P-60 (FP6, 3M ESPE), Heliomolar HB (HHB, Ivoclar/Vivadent) and SureFil (SF, Dentsply) as packable composite resins were examined in this study. Each material are filled into the mold (7mm diameter, 1mm thick) and cured according to the manufacturers' instructions. All specimens were polished with up to 4000 grit SiC and finished by diamond paste. Tooth-brushing simulation device was used for tooth-brush wear (Load 1.96N, 12000 cycles). Toothpaste slurry (main abrasive; calcium carbonate) was used for abrasive. Gloss value was measured with a gloss meter (VG2000 Nippon Denshoku) and surface roughness, Ra, was measured with a confocal laser microscope (LEXT-OLM, Olympus). The data was analyzed by one-way ANOVA (p<0.01). Results: G-aenial Universal Flo showed significantly high gloss value compared other composite resins after 12000 cycles. Ra of all specimens with polished surface showed less than 0.1. After toothbrushing simulation it is only G-aenial universal flo in this range. Conclusion: These results suggested that G-aenial Universal Flo should maintain glossy and smooth surface after toothbrush abrasion.
