Multidisciplinary Treatment of Adult Class II Open-Bite Patient (Case Report)
OBJECTIVES: To present the treatment of an open bite patient with congenital enamel defects. METHODS: A 20-year-old Class II division 1 female patient with an anterior open bite and narrow maxillary arch referred to our clinic with a chief complaint of chewing problem. Additionally, congenital enamel defects of upper incisor teeth were observed. Maxillary expansion was performed with acrylic bonded expansion appliance. Using zygomatic skeletal anchorage, en masse impaction of the posterior segment was achieved. Orthodontic treatment of the patient was continued with fixed appliances and Class I molar-canine relation achieved and overjet eliminated. Gingivoplasty was utilized to maintain gingival harmony in the upper incisor region. After healing period, porcelain laminate veneers were cemented. RESULTS: Open bite and overjet were eliminated and bilateral Class I molar and canine relationships were achieved. Smile aesthetics was improved. CONCLUSION: Zygomatic anchorage can be used to maintain vertical anchorage control in skeletal open-bite cases. Successful multi-discipliner treatment result was achieved with proper diagnosis before the initiation of the treatment.
