Analyzing mutagenic activity of coral goniopora

Introduction: Coral Goniopora has known as a osteoconductive material for bone grafting. As a material which is applied in a human body, we have to analyze the mutagenic potential of Coral Goniopora. Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the mutagenic activity of Coral Goniopora. Methods: Bacterial culture medium is inoculated with the appropriate Salmonella or E.coli strain and incubated overnight. Coral Goniopora is carried out using strain TA100 only over a wide dose of range. Bacterial culture, Coral Goniopora and S9 mix are incubated for one hour. There after the incubation solution is mixed with soft agar and added to minimal agar plates. The plates are incubated for 48-72 hours. After this time the numbers of revertant colonies are counted. Result: in a group of Coral Goniopora without S9 mix, group I : 229, group II:344, group III:295 and the mean : 289.33 (non mutagen), in a group of Coral Goniopora with S9 mix, group I:291, group II:213, group III:225, and the mean : 243 (non mutagen). Conclusion: There is no mutagenic activity in Coral Goniopora. Key words : Coral goniopora, mutagenic activity
