Stress analysis of post length in treated endodontically incisor
Objectives: Analyze the influence of the length of the fiberglass post technique in stress distribution in a system restored with composite core evaluated by the two-dimensional finite element analysis. Methods: Three virtual models containing a maxillary incisor with endodontic treatment and remaining dentin with ideal dimensions, were restored with posts with lengths of 4mm, 8mm and 12mm, a composite core and all-ceramic crown. A load of 100N was applied to the mandibular incisor contacting the palatine surface of the maxillary incisor. Stress distribution were analyzed by von Mises criteria and tensile-compressive strain. The structures were considered as isotropic, homogeneous and with elastic linear behavior. Results: The data showed that the overall system's strain appear to be influenced by post length, showing that the longer post produces better stress distribution along the path of the root dentin and post, with smaller points of stress concentration. Conclusion: The strain concentration occurs in the area of the apical end of the post, showing that the decrease of the post length creates higher stress values and the bone support is not influenced by the length the post.
