Tensile resistance of carbon-fiber post cemented with different luting agents

Objective:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vitro retention of carbon fiber posts cemented with different luting agents using the tensile test. Methods: Forty caries-free maxillary canines had their crowns sectioned and the radicular canals endodontically treated. The roots were embedded in acrylic resin, except for the 2 mm of cervical area and were divided into four groups (n=10), according to the type of luting agent: GI - 2-step etch-and-rinse adhesive RelyX ARC; GII - glass-ionomer cement Ketac Cem; GIII - dual-polymerizing resin cement Panavia F; GIV – self polymerizing cement C&B. The post spaces were opened with cylindrical bur at low speed attached to a surveyor. After the posts luting the coronary portions were made in composed resin and the body-of-proofs were them submitted to the tensile test in a universal testing machine Instron 4444 at a speed of 1.0 mm/min. Results:The ANOVA analysis indicated significant difference (p<.01) among the groups and the Tukey test revealed significant difference (p<.001) among the Panavia F (0.30±0.01kN) and Ketac Cem (0.17±0.01kN) compared to other cement. The Rely X (0.24±0.024kN) and C&B (0.24±0.01kN) showed no significant difference between them (p>.05). Conclusion:It was concluded that the Panavia F promoted the highest values of tensile strength of the posts, while the Ketac Cem promoted the lowest values.
