Objectives: To evaluate the effect of different polishing systems on gloss and surface roughness of resin composite containing supra-nano spherical filler.
Methods: Specimens(10x10x2mm) were prepared for six resin composites: Estelite Sigma(ES, Tokuyama dental) and Estelite Sigma Quick(EQ, Tokuyama dental) as supra-nano spherical type, Filtek Supreme XT (SX, 3MESPE, ) as nano-cluster type, CeramX mono(CX, Dentsply) as micro-hybrid type, Premise(PR, Kerr) as nano-hybrid type, Heliomolar(HE, Ivoclar Vivadent) as microfill type. Each specimen was cured according to the manufacturers' instructions. After Polymerization, the surface of each specimen was ground with a #1500 grid sandpaper for 60s each. Specimens were polished for 10, 30 and 60s with Soflex superfine(3MESPE), i-Pol(Heraeus Kulzer) and PoGo(Dentsply) at 9.000 rpm with a slow speed handpiece. Gloss and surface roughness of specimens were measured with a gloss-meter(TC-108D, Tokyo-densyoku) and a Surface texture measuring instrument(Surfcom, Tokyo-Seimitsu).
Results: Gloss and surface roughness(Ra) data is shown in the table.
| 10sec | 30sec | 60sec | |||
| Gloss(%) | Ra(um) | Gloss(%) | Ra(um) | Gloss(%) | Ra(um) |

Polishing system: Soflex super fine(3MESPE)
Conclusion: Filler size and shape of the resin composite influence the gloss and surface roughness. Supra-nano spherical filler filled resin composite shows the highest gloss in a short polishing time.
