Aggressive Periodontitis associated with severe anemia -a case report

Objectives: Anemia, one of the more common blood disorders, occurs when the number of healthy red blood cells decreases in the body and usually measured by a decrease in the capacity and amount of hemoglobin. Methods: 23-year-old female patient was referred from her dentist because of tooth mobility. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed generalized, severe periodontal disease. The patient indicated into her systemic history no important data of their status. But she complained about easy exhaustion with few movements and lately increased blood mixes in their menstrual period. Accordingly of these complains, she was transferred to a hospital. Result of consultation was made a diagnosis of severe anemia on the basis of clinical assessments and blood test. Results: Their treatment was modified because of their systemic situation. After the treatment, the patient was monitored for 1 year. Her periodontal and systemic status was in this period stable. Conclusions: In this report a case of aggressive periodontal disease probably to be affected by severe iron and B12 deficiency anemia is presented. This case seems to be the first reported case on the topic.
