A 48 Month Clinical Evaluation of Finesse All Ceramic Restorations
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to clinically evaluate Finesse all-ceramic restorations (Ceramco, Inc.) when used in conjunction with Enforce and Calibra resin cements (Dentsply/Caulk). Methods: Forty posterior and anterior ceramic crowns, 20 ceramic inlays and onlays, and 26 ceramic veneers were placed in 43 patients. Standard ceramic preparations were performed followed by conventional polyvinylsiloxane impression techniques using cord retraction. A resin luting cement was used to insert the restorations following manufacturer's instructions. Restorations were evaluated at baseline (B), 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months using modified Ryge criteria. Results: Veneers showed the least change in all evaluation parameters, closely followed by crowns. Inlays/onlays showed no change in color match, retention, or secondary caries but did show decrease in alfa percentages for marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, and retention while also having the lowest recall rate. Conclusions: The data supports that there were sufficient shades available to obtain desired esthetic results, with 98% of all restorations being rated alfa for shade match to Vita (Vident) shade guide. Postoperative sensitivity was only found in 3% of the patients, none requiring additional therapy. 93% of the 85 restorations placed were evaluated to be clinically acceptable after 48 months. Of the 6 failed restorations, one failure was not material related and another one debonded and was rebonded. This study was supported by Ceramco, Inc.
