Hybridization and Physical Properties of Adhesives Modified by Grander Technology

A new approach to reach the equilibrium of adhesion to dentin emerges based on the observation of Grander Technology (GT) influence in water. Objectives: The aim of this study was to verify the influence of this technology on the physical properties of two adhesive systems (ADS) (conventional and self-etching) through the measurement of the surface tension (ST) and the contact angle (CA) and the evaluation of the formed hybrid layer (HL) in human and bovine dentin. Methods: The ST of four different liquids (water, Single Bond – 3M, Clearfield SE primer – Kuraray and Clearfield SE bond – Kuraray) was measured before (control) and after submitting these liquids to the GT, with the aid of a goniometry (Rime-hart). The measurement of the CA of the liquids followed the same procedure using three distinct surfaces: titanium plate, human dentin and bovine dentin. The HL formed for both: control and GT modified ADS, was evaluated (SEM). Human and bovine dentin samples were prepared, by exposing the dentin surfaces and submitting them to various grit polishing paper discs. They were then treated with the ADS (control and GT modified), followed by the placement of a double composite resin layer (Z250- 3M). After storage (37oC/ 24h), SEM analysis were conducted. Results: The data were submitted to ANOVA and Turkeys test 5%. The results showed statistically significant reduction for the ST of all liquids modified by the GT, as well as for the CA in the human dentin. Statistically significant were also the results showing a thicker HL formation with the two ADS when modified by the GT. A thicker HL was found with the conventional ADS when comparing to the self-etching ADS, in all situations. Conclusion: This first released study in the area shows a positive influence of GT in Dentistry and opens to new researches.
