Adaptation of ceramic restorations fabricated from new optical impression system
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine in vitro the internal and marginal adaptation of ceramic inlay and onlay restorations scanned with the CEREC inEos optical scanner and milled with CEREC inLab. Methods: Custom-made MO inlay and onlay cavities were casted with Co-Cr metal for this study. Both cavities were placed in the plaster jaw model and scanned with CEREC inEos scanner (SIRONA Dental Systems) with the top-view mode. Following design with CEREC inLab software (SIRONA Dental Systems), inlay and onlay restorations were milled from machinable ceramic blocks (VITA Block Mark II, VITA zahnfabrik) (n=10 each). The space between the inner surface of the ceramic and the custom-made Co-Cr cavity was replicated with silicon impression material (Take 1, Wash and Tray, Kerr). The space replicas of onlay and inlay restorations were cut bucco-lingually and mesio-distally, respectively. Replicated film thickness was measured at 2 marginal and 4 internal points with a measuring microscope (Model STM Olympus) at x30 magnification. One-way analysis of variance (? = 0.05) was used to detect any differences in film thickness between the two restoration types. Results: The mean film thicknesses of the inlay restoration were 26±13 µm for marginal, and 84±23 µm for internal. Those of onlay restoration were 37±14 µm and 111±32 µm for marginal and internal, respectively. There was no significant difference between inlays and onlays at both measuring points (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Ceramic inlay and onlay restorations made from optical impression with CEREC inEos scanner showed similar internal and marginal adaptation.
