Influence of endodontic sealer in the reinforcement of weakened roots

The use of adhesive restoring materials as reinforcement intraradicular of weakened roots has been aiding in the rehabilitation of endodontically treated teeth. Objectives: the aim of this work was to evaluate in vitro, by means tensile strength, the influence of the endodontic sealer in the adhesiveness of the light-curing composite resin, used in the reinforcement of weakened roots. Methods: forty roots were included in acrylic resin, weakened with burs and separated in four groups for endodontic treatment with different sealers: Group I – EndoFill (Dentisply - Brazil); Group II – Sealapex (Kerr - USA); Group III - Sealer 26 (Dentsply - Brazil) and Group IV - AH Plus (Dentsply - Switzerland). The roots were reinforced with light-curing resin Z100 (3M - Brazil) by Luminex posts (Dentatus - USA), and received prefabricated metallic posts that were cemented with Panavia F (Kuraray - Japan). The bodies-of-proof were submitted to tensile strength in the Instron 4444 machine (Instron - USA). Results: the ANOVA test demonstrated significant difference between the Groups (p<0,01) and the Tukey test revealed that the Groups I (0.1849 kN) and II (0.2025 kN) were similar, but significantly different from the Groups III (0.3046 kN) and IV (0.3125 kN), that were also similar. Conclusion: it was concluded that the resinous cements AH Plus and Sealer 26 were best in relation to the adhesiveness of the resin, compared to the other cements.
