Zinag: Proposal of a biomaterial in Dentistry. Mechanical tests
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the Zinag allow in accordance with specification no. 5 A.D.A and determine its mechanical properties. Zinag is a zinc-rich alloy based on the eutectoid Zn-Al system modified with silver with superplasticity properties. Values shown during characterization let us propose it as another alternative for gold Type I in small inlays that are submitted to low loads. Methods: Thefollowing alloy compositionswill be used: Zinag 1 (Zn-77.04wt%, Al-21.93wt%, Ag-1.0wt%) Zinag 4 (Zn-74.54wt%, Al-21.21wt%, Ag-4.24wt%). Yield strength shall be determined using an offset value of 0.1%. the loading rate shall be a maximum of 2mm/min, head travel until the yield strength has been surpassed. Modulus of elasticity shall be determined from the chart generated in the determination of the yield strength according to ASTM E111. Hardness shall be determined on cast specimens with a minimum thickness of 1mm and a minimum width of 2mm. Specimens shall be removed from their sprues and mounted on the prepared surface using any generally accepted metallographic technique. The hardness number shall be determined by applying a 49N (5gf) or 9.8 (1 Kgf) load in accordance with ASTM E92.

Conclusions: Zinag at 1 and 4% meets the physical and mechanical requirements established in the ADA specification. This alloy can be used as an alternative for gold Type I.
