Objective: The goal of this study was to compare the adhesion of different self-cure resin-modified glass ionomer luting cements to dentin. The cements used were two commercial materials RelyX Luting (RLC, 3M ESPE), FujiCEM (FujiCEM, GC), and one experimental RMGI cement (ExpC, 3M ESPE). RLC is a powder/liquid system while FujiCEM and ExpC are paste/paste. Method: Mechanical properties were tested according to ISO 9917 using Instron. For adhesion testing, bovine teeth were ground using 320 and 600 grit SiC paper under running water to expose dentin. The dentin surface was blot-dried with Kim Wipes and the cement placed on it and allowed to cure at 37 C/95% RH for 15 min. Five specimens of each category were made and immersed in 37 C deionized water for 24 h. The bond strengths were measured in shear mode using Instron. Results: The mean values including their standard deviations in the parentheses are summarized in the following table:
| Luting Cement | Flexural Strength (FS), MPa | Diametral Tensile Strength (DTS), MPa | Compressive Strength (CS), MPa | Shear Bond Strength to Dentin (Ad), MPa |
| RelyX Luting (Vitremer) | 27(3) | 25(3) | 128(6) | 4.3(1.6) |
| ExpC | 30(6) | 23(3) | 147(6) | 5.6(2.0) |
| FujiCEM | 15(6) | 18(4) | 94(10) | 0.8(1.4) |
Conclusions: ANOVA analysis was performed at p < 0.05. There was no significant difference between the experimental paste/paste material and RelyX Luting cement in FS, DTS, and Ad. FujiCEM showed significantly lower values in all properties compared to RelyX Luting cement.
