Dental Transplants from an Individual of the Third Inferior Molar to the Space of the First Inferior Molar
Objective: To accomplish the transplant of third inferior molars in order to permit the use of the space of inferior primary molars. Methods: Selected patients who have inferior primary molars with such destruction that reconstruction would be impossible and who have the third molar on the same side. The study was conducted with twenty patients. The following steps were followed: mandible technique with cervical plexus using xilocania and 2% epinephrine. The remainder of the inferior primary molar was extracted while preserving the alveolar. Immediately after, the detachment of tissue from the third molar, including the same quadrant, was realized. The transplant of the same alveolar from the first molar, if necessary, osteotomy was utilized for the adjustment to the morphology of the third molar. The third molars were immobilized outside of the obstruction. The detached tissue was sutured with 000 separate stitches of silk. The sutures were removed seven (7) days later and the immobilization was left in place for forty (40) days. Control x-rays were taken every three (3) months for one year. Results: 70% of the patients maintained the molar transplant functional for a year after the procedure. Conclusions: The third molar transplant to the alveolar of the inferior primary molar was successful for the following year that the procedure was undertaken and x-rays continued to be taken as well the undertaking of clinical studies. These results shall be reported at a later date.
