Comparison of the Acid-resistance Level of the Dentin Surface Immersed with Fluoride-releasing Materials in Artificial Saliva

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to compare the acid-resistance level of the dentine surface immersed with fluoride-releasing materials in artificial saliva.

Methods: The material(15mm diameter) was placed against the bovine dentine (5mm diameter) with the space of 1.1mm between the surface of the dentine and the material. The space was filled with artificial saliva 0.5mL, both material and dentine were immersed. The specimen was maintained 3 days, 37-C and then the acid-resistance level of the immersed dentine surface(5mm diameter) was measured. The acid-resistance level was evaluated by amount of released calcium from the dentine surface when it was contacted with 0.1M lactic acid buffer solution (pH 4.0, 0.5mL) for 30 minutes. The amount of released calcium was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The amount of released fluoride from the material in distilled water for 3 days was also measured independently by a fluoride electrode. Materials used in this study were Filtekflow(FF,3M), Reactomer(RA,shofu), Vitremer(VT,3M), FujiVII Capsule(F7C,GC).

Results: The amount of released calcium from dentine was shown in the table. There was no significant difference between FF and RA(t test, P>0.01). There were significant differences between RA and VT(P<0.01), VT and F7C(P<0.01). The amount of released fluoride from the examined materials was also shown. The results showed the amount of released calcium from the dentine surface significantly decreased when it was immersed in the artificial saliva with high fluoride release materials. F7C showed highest fluoride release in the examined materials. Therefore, the dentine surface immersed with F7C had the highest acid-resistance level.

Conclusion: The dentine surface immersed with F7C had the highest acid-resistance level among the examined materials.
