Objectives: To evaluate dentin and enamel microleakage (ML) of two self-etching dental adhesives. 40 class V cavities were prepared in 20 human extracted molars. Methods: Cavities were bonded with either Clearfil SE Bond (CSEB) or Prompt-L-Pop (PLP) according to directions and restored with Tetric Ceram. Cavities were polished and specimens were thermocycled (500x). Half of specimens were stored in distilled water (37°C) for 24 hours and the rest for 6 months. The apices of the teeth were sealed and the teeth coated with a nail polish. Samples were immersed in 0.5% solution of basic fucshin for 24 h., and sectioned. Sections were examined under a stereomicroscope and the staining along occlusal (O) or gingival (G) margins were recorded according to the criteria: 0:no dye,1:dye along half of the O or G walls, 2:dye along the complete O or G walls 3:dye along the axial wall. ML values are shown in the table. Kruskal Wallis (p<0.05) and Mann-Whitney U (p<0.01) tests were used. Results: are shown in the table. Letters indicate differences at the occlusal or gingival margins, * shows differences occlusal versus gingival.

Conclusions: On occlusal, CSEB after 6 months storage showed the highest ML values. On gingival, CSEB attained the lowest ML scores, but after 6 months storage no differences were found between groups. PLP leaked more at gingival than at occlusal.(Supported by CICYT/FEDER #MAT2001-2843-C02, Spain; RED CYTED VIII.J.).
