Clinical Outcome Assessment of Endodontic Treatment in HIV-Infected Patient: A systematic Review

Background: Antiretroviral treatment and HIV influences the treatment planning and outcomes of endodontics. There are differences between the endodontic clinical outcomes in HIV-infected patients and non-HIV patients. This systematic review assessed the clinical outcomes from a literature review of articles documenting endodontic treatment in patients living with HIV
Objective: To summarise the results of the most recently cited methods for analysis of the alveolar bone around periapical lesions following endodontic treatment of HIV patients.
Materials & Methods: An electronic literature search from several databases was conducted from 2009 to 2019 with previously defined inclusion criteria, in an open-ended electronic search of PubMed, Proquest, EBSCO and other databases for published articles.
Results: Altogether, 56 articles were assessed from the abstract, excluded similar and irrelevant journals, 15 relevant studies were identified, which between them assessd the effect, risk and outcome of endodontic treatment in the HIV-infected patient.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this review, it could be possible to suggest assessment of HIV patient with periapical lesion had been found to be more comprehensive to use PAI (Periodontitis Apicalis Index) to evaluate clinical outcomes HIV-infected patient.
