MANAGEMENT OF THIRD MOLAR SURGERY IN HIV PATIENTS

Objectives: Objectives: Third molar surgery is one of common procedures performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons. These kind of surgery is predictable and complications are infrequent. Immune deficiency states is one of the considerations to prevent complications. HIV Patients is one of the patients immune deficiency status. Third molar surgical procedures are associated with excessive bleeding and increased risk of infection in oral region. Improvements in oral hygiene must be encouraged, such as scalling pre operative, prophylactic antibiotics and also history of anti-retroviral therapy of each patients.
Methods:
Methods:7 cases of third molar surgery in HIV patients were handled at the oral and maxillofacial surgery department. Intraoral examination shows typical lesions of HIV patients such as oral candidiasis, hairy leukoplakia, necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis, oral ulcers, and also the pericoronitis of third mola. Radiological examination shows impacted teeth in upper and lower the third molar region. Third molar treatment in these patients is carried out with elective surgery in general anesthesia. Prophylactic antibiotics were given to the patients preoperative as standar of care. Treatment planning for HIV patients, follow the same sequence as with other patients, the priorities are to alleviate pain, restore function and prevent further disease.Bleeding control also needed to avoid complications
