Disinfection Effects on Short-wavelength Blue Light on Peri-implant Infected Mainly Pathogenic Bacteria
Objectives: To study the bactericidal effect of 405nm short-wavelength blue light on P. gingivals and the safety of the light on human gingival fibroblast. Methods: The bactericidal effects of 405 nm LED blue light with different parameters in suspension of P. gingivalis, biofilm and human gingival fibroblasts were observed. Results: The irradiation of 405nm LED blue light for 4 minutes had the effect of killing P.gingivals in suspension (>4log10) and could damage P. gingivalis in biofilm state as well. Besides, the irradiation of 405 nm blue light had an inhibitory effect on the growth of human gingival fibroblasts rather than completely kill the cells. Conclusions: The irradiation of 405nm LED blue light had a significant effect of killing P. gingivalis but only inhibit the human gingival fibroblasts slightly. Thus, this wavelength of blue light might be one of the useful adjuvant treatments of infection around the implant.
