Two Year Clinical Performance of S-PRG- Versus Nano-Hybrid Filled Resin-Composites
Objectives: This study evaluated the clinical performance of resin composites based on S-PRG versus nano-hybrid filler technologies. Methods: Between February-2016 and November-2016, a total of 40 patients, received randomly 40 pairs of restorations restored using either S-PRG filler (Beautiful II LS, SHOFU Inc., Japan) (BLS) or nano-hybrid resin composite (Clearfil Majesty Posterior, Kuraray, Japan) (CMP) in Class I and Class II cavities. Two operators performed all restorations using FL-Bond II (SHOFU Inc.) and Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray) adhesives, respectively. Two independent calibrated operators evaluated the restorations 2 weeks after placement (baseline), at 6 months, 1 and 2 year using FDI criteria. The changes in the FDI parameters were analyzed using McNemar test (alpha=0.05) and Kaplan-Meier. Results: Mean observation period was 29.±3.8 months. Seventy restorations (87.5%) completed their 2-years follow up. No tooth fractures, cases of occlusal wear or loss of contact points requiring repair, incidence of endodontic complications or post-operative sensitivity was noted with both materials. All the characteristics were rated predominantly with high (1 or 2) scores. In one filling from the CMP group, a small and localized secondary caries was observed which did not require intervention after 1 year follow up. Conclusions: Over the 2-year follow up period, both resin composite fillings based on either S-PRG or nano-hybrid fillers were clinically acceptable.
