New Formulation from a Biobasated Espiroortocarbonato System for Substitution of BisGMa in Dental Resins
Objectives: Obtain a new biobased acrylic monomer of spiroortocarbonate type from glycerin as a natural source for its evaluation as a co-monomer of BisGMa in substitution of the latter in dental resins Methods: 1. Synthesize the spiroortocarbonate type acrylic monomer, Soc IF-UDMA, from glycerin 2. Formulate dental resins in different concentrations of Soc IF-UDMA (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) as co-monomer of BisGMA. 3. Evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of the different dental formulations at concentrations according to what is established in the Norms: ISO 4049 and ISO / TS 11405. Results: The evaluation of the properties of flexion, absorption and solubility (ISO 4049) when the Soc IF-UDMA co-monomer was used in the different concentrations complied with the standards established by the Standard, observing that in a ratio of 50 : 50% of BisGMA/Soc IF-UDMA presented higher values compared to the organic matrix of BisGMA. It was also found that in the microfiltration test, using the ISO 11405 standard, during the photopolymerization all the formulations with the SOC, the contraction showed a decrease of up to 50% when the resin is applied in dental organs, considering that the Soc monomer IF-UDMA, is a possible candidate for its use and replacement of BisGMA in dental restorations. Conclusions: A new biobased acrylic monomer of spiroortocarbonate type (Soc IF-UDMA) was obtained from a natural source such as glycerin. Based on the results obtained by the different tests evaluated, the Soc IF-UDMA, promotes the improvement in the properties as well as shrinkage reduction during the curing of dental resins, assuming that the SOC is a possible candidate to replace the BIS-GMA commercial.
