Bonding Performance of Experimental Universal Adhesives to Different Substrates
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the bonding performance of an experimental universal adhesive with different substrates. Methods: The experimental universal adhesive (ADH-XTE, 3M Oral Care) was used to determine bond strength to bovine enamel, dentin, CAD/CAM resin composite, lithium disilicate, zirconia and Au-Ag-Pd alloy. To determine the applicability of the adhesive to the repair of damaged restorations, shear bond strength between tooth and various restorative materials was measured. Shear bond strengths were measured in accordance with ISO 29022. A one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test were used for analysis of shear bond strength data. Shear bond strengths were measured in accordance with ISO 29022. A two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test were used for analysis of shear bond strength data. Results: When bonding to a wide range of materials, the experimental adhesive consistently showed a shear bond strength of over 10MPa, but the bond strength was different depending on the substrates. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the experimental universal adhesive system (ADH-XTE) has a consistently high bond strength to wide range of restorative materials.
