Bis-MEPP-based Flowable Resin Has Low Sorption and High Color Stability

Objectives: To compare the water sorption and color stability of bisphenole A ethoxylate dimethacrylate (Bis-MEPP) and bisphenol A diglycidylether methacrylate (Bis-GMA)-based flowable composite resins.
Methods: We used 1 type of Bis-MEPP-based resin, G-ænial Universal Injectable (GUI, GC) and 3 types of Bis-GMA-based resins, Filtek Supreme Ultra (FSU,3M ESPE), Tetric N-Flow (TNF, Ivoclar Vivadent) and Premise Flowable (PFL, Kerr). Specimens (n=7) were stored in 20 mL distilled water (37°C, 7d) before water sorption measurement according to JIS 6514:2013. Color change was measured after soaking specimens in distilled water or red wine (each n=5; 7d), ΔE* was calculated, and the results were statistically analyzed Tukey’s honestly significant difference multiple comparison test (p<0.05).
Results: GUI had the lowest water sorption and TNF had the highest; GUI’s water sorption was significantly lower than that of the Bis-GMA-based flowable composite resins. GUI had the smallest ΔE* for color change and TNF had the largest.
Conclusions: Compared with the Bis-GMA-based flowable composite resins used in this study, Bis-MEPP-based GUI had a lower water sorption. Moreover, our findings suggest that GUI has high color stability.
