Remineralization of Early Caries in First Permanent Molar: Clinical Trial
Objectives: To determine the remineralizing effect of CPP-ACP on early caries lesions in first permanent molars Methods: A quasi-experimental study in 54 school children randomly allocated was performed for a period of six months. We only include first molars with incipient enamel caries lesions. All the school children received teeth brushing advise once a month and also: Group "a" received topical aplication of CPP-ACP/ F creme weekly, group "b" did not receive any treatment ( control group). Clinical evaluation before and after the intervention was performed by a calibrated pediatric dentist in ICDAS Criteria. Descriptive statistics and T-B Kendall tests were used to compare the groups after the intervention. Results: From the 100 incipient caries lesions detected at baseline phase, the 50% at the CPP-ACP group, got remineralization, more than the cases observed at the control group (13%). Also, 21.7% of the early lesions advance to deep caries lesions in CPP-ACP/F group, less than the 46.3% at the control group. p< 0.001 Conclusions: The findings of the present study suggest that CPP-ACP is useful to promote remineralization of early caries lesions.
