Effect of Different Cleaning Agent on Bonding Performance to Y-PSZ
Objectives: To evaluate the influence of cleaning methods on bonding performance of self-adhesive resin cements to saliva-contaminated zirconia. Methods: After saliva contamination, airborne particle-abraded Y-PSZ (partially stabilized zirconia) discs (Zpex Smile, Tosoh) were divided into four groups of cleaning methods (n=20): tap water (HS), Ivoclean (IC), Zirclean (ZC) and 6% NaOCl solution(NC). Alumina-blasted zirconia discs without saliva contamination were used as control group (Con). The pretreated specimens were bonded using a self-adhesive resin cement (Unicem2, 3M-ESPE). Tensile bond strength (TBS) were measured using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 2mm/min after 24 hours (24hr) and thermal cycling at 5°C-55°C for 5,000 cycles (TC5K) then statistically analyzed by parametric survival analysis (Weibull model). Pretesting failures and failure mode were recorded (cohesive/mixed/adhesive). Results: In 24hr aging condition, Con and ZC groups showed significantly higher TBS than HS,IC and NC groups. In TC5K aging condition, all specimens in HS groups debonded before TBS test. ZC groups showed significantly lower TBS compared to 24hr aging condition. Conclusions: Cleaning agents can improve bond performance after saliva contamination on Y-PSZ but effect varies on the product.
