Evaluation of Bonding Properties of Resin Cement in Self-cure Mode
Objectives: Self-curing capability is important for the bonding property of cement especially when the restorative material is opaque or thick. We have developed new self-adhesive resin cement with optional tooth primer, NGL01 and Adhesive Enhancing Primer(AEP). The purpose of this study was to evaluate self-curing bonding properties of NGL01 and AEP. Methods: NGL01(GC), AEP(GC), RelyX™ Unicem2 Automix:UC2(3M), RelyX™ Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement:ULT(3M), Maxcem Elite™:MCE (Kerr), NX3 Nexus™:NX3(Kerr) were used in this study. Bonding properties by self-curing were evaluated by tensile bond strength test (TBS). Specimens of bovine anterior tooth dentin were embedded with acrylic resin. Exposed flat surface was finished with 320-grit SiC paper. Bonding area (2.5mm-diameter) and cement thickness (0.1mm-thickness) were defined by plastic-tape. Stainless-steel rod was cemented using NGL01 both without and with AEP. The other products were used according to the manufactures’ instructions. Specimens were stored in 37°C distilled water for 24hours. In thermocycling (TC), the specimens were placed under thermocycling (5-55°C for 5,000cycles). TBS was measured by SHIMADZU AG-I. [Crosshead-speed 1mm/min, N=5, statistically analyzed (Tukey-Kramer, p<0.05)] Results: NGL01 both without and with AEP showed the highest TBS in both self-adhesive group and with tooth primer group. NGL01 kept TBS after 5,000 thermocycle both without and with AEP. Conclusions: NGL01 showed higher bonding properties by self-curing than the other products. It is thought that NGL01 will provide good clinical results, even in cases when sufficient light irradiation is difficult.
