Effectiveness Natural Glycerin and Oxygen Barrier Solution in Composite-resin Restorations

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of natural glycerin and DeOx of the Ultradent brand to reduce the formation of the inhibited oxygen layer in composite resins
Methods: Experimental, transversal and comparative study. 12 disks were made in resin, 6 for G1 resin (Bis-GMA, TEGMA, Canforquinone and DEAB) and 6 for G2 Z350 (3M). Using infrared spectroscopy (FTIR spectroscopy), the polymerization percentage of the surface layer was determined. Each group was subdivided into two to apply: Natural glycerin or DeOX (Ultradent). The measurements were taken before and after photocuring. The data obtained were analyzed by SPSS Statics v20 and subjected to the Shapiro-Wilk test to determine normality, later t student test to determine the difference between the groups and the Bonferroni test was applied
Results: The G1 resin / commercial glycerin (GC), monitored before and after curing, indicates that the percentages of monomer to polymer conversion give 32% bisgma alone, 15.44% bis / GC with mixture and 42% bis / GC superal, obtaining similar results when natural glycerin was used. The values obtained do not vary when modifying the curing time from 100 to 150 seconds. In the same way, the spectra for the 3M commercial resin obtained very similar conversion percentages with commercial and natural glycerin.
Conclusions: It is suggested to use agents when polymerizing the most superficial layer to avoid or reduce the formation of the inhibited layer of oxygen, since it increases the percentage of polymerization.
