Intrafamilial Presence of H.pylori in Dental Plaque in Chiapas, México

Objectives: Determine the prevalence of H. pylori in dental plaque of 36 families of Chiapas, Mexico and the possible intrafamilial infection
Methods: Each family was given a questionnaire for data collection and an informed consent to sign before the sample of dental plaque was taken. The samples of dental plaque of each family member was placed in a sample tube with trypticase soy and correctly marked. The samples were processed with qPCR to detect which ones were positive to H. pylori
Results: The data of the 36 families was analyzed and in total there were 101 patients and of these 39 were men and 62 women, of these samples 43/101 (42.6%) were positive to H.pylori and 56/101 (55.4%) were negative. The mean age of the infected patients was 25.61 ± 15.71 and the not infected 18.42 ± 15. The most affected gender was the female group with 29/101 infected patients, while the male group 14/101. The highest percentage of infection in family bonds was found in mothers with 16.8%, followed by the firstborn with 11.9% infected. In 26 of 36 families at least one member was infected. In 5/36 families the mother and at least one child were infected, in 3/36 both parents were infected and in 1/36 the father and the son were infected. Of 26 families with at least one member infected, 9/26 (34.6%) were both at least parent and a sibling infected
Conclusions: There is a significant relation of interfamilial infection of H. pylori in dental plaque
