Antimicrobial Activity of Epoxy-resin Based Sealer With and Without Addition of Silver Nanoparticles Against Enterococcus faecalis Biofilm
Objectives: This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of Acroseal associated with different concentrations of silver nanoparticle against Enterococcus faecalis biofilm. Methods: Bovine dentin blocks were prepared and served as substrate to E. faecalis biofilm formation for 14 days. Acroseal discs incorporated or not with silver nanoparticles (1%, 0,05% and 0,01%) were performed. After biofilm formation, sealers discs were placed on the dentin blocks with biofilm for 2, 7 and 14 days, then, removed and analyzed. Colony-forming units (CFU mL-1) were counted and data were analyzed using ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls’ test. Results: At 14 days a reduction on biofilm was observed, even in control group. Besides, the addition of 0,05% and 1% of silver nanoparticle to Acroseal promoted a decrease on biofilm when compared to control group on day 2 and day 7. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the incorporation of silver nanoparticle increased Acroseal antimicrobial activity against E. faecalis biofilm.
