The Effects of Aspirin on the Process of Pulpitis

Objectives: Aspirin is commonly used in dentistry for pain management. However, little is known about its effects on the process of pulpitis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aspirin on the process of pulpitis.
Methods: Bacteria-induced dental pulp infection model was established in beagle dogs, and then treated with aspirin plus antibiotics. At 1 month after bacterial infection, radiographic inspection was performed to investigate the effect of aspirin on the process of aspirin.
Results: Dental pulp infection model was successfully established in dogs. Radiographic inspection results showed that in control group, all bacteria-chanlleged pulp developed into apical periodontitis. Aspirin plus antibiotics treatment group, the incidence of apical periodontitis was significantly decreased.
Conclusions: Aspirin-based treatment approach was able to delay the development of pulpitis, and thus decrease the incidence of apical periodontitis.
