Bonding of a Novel Bioactive Restorative Material to Dentine
Objectives: To evaluate bonding of a novel bioactive restorative material to dentine following different endodontic irrigation protocols Methods: 24 extracted non-carious lower molar human teeth were divided into three groups (8 molars per group). Group A 1:3% Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and 17% Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) , Group B:6% NaOCL and Etidronic acid (EA) , Group C: Saline (control group). The occlusal enamel was removed to expose the mid-coronal dentine. 37% phosphoric acid etchant was used following the manufacturer’s recommendation. The dentine surface was covered with a layer of bioactive material 5 mm. thick and light cured. The specimens were stored in artificial saliva for 24 hours in the room temperature. They were cut along the horizontal and vertical axis through the adhesive/tooth interface to create beams 1mm by 1mm wide and 6-9 mm long were prepared for MTBS testing using universal testing machine. The fractured beams examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate the fracture patterns.
Results: The outcome of one way ANOVA showed that there was no significant difference in MTBS among test and control groups. The outcome of micromorphological analysis of restoration/dentine interface showed long resin-tag with Conclusions: There is no adverse effect of EA and EDTA endodontic irrigation protocols on bonding of novel bioactive restorative material to dentine.
