RFA Assessment for Implants Placed With Multiple Preparation Drilling Speeds

Objectives: This study utilized two RFA devices to analyze the influence of three different osteotomy drilling speeds on the stability of implants inserted in dense bone.
Methods: A total of 60 osteotomies were prepared utilizing the manufacturer-indicated drilling methods of the ASTRA EV®-conical system (Dentsply-Sirona), employing drilling speeds of 800, 1500, and 2000 revolutions per minute (RPM). Implants with the same diameter and length (4.2mm and 13mm, respectively) were inserted to crestal level. Forty implants were placed for each preparation RPM setting in both dense bone (density types II). There were three groups evaluated in total:
Three groups of implants placed in dense bone D2 (density ll) osteotomies prepared at 800RPM, 1500RPM, 2000RPM.
Implant stability, expressed as ISQ values, was measured using two resonance frequency analysis (RFA) devices, Osstell™ and Penguin™.
Statistical comparison between the groups was performed utilizing the Kruskal-Wallis (two-way ANOVA).
Results: Drilling speed in dense bone has not affected implant stability (p>0.05). Implant stability measured utilizing the Penguin device yielded higher ISQ values dense bone compared to the values obtained using the Osstell device (p<0.05).
Conclusions: CONCLUSION: Higher bone density positively influenced the implant stability, expressed as higher ISQ values. Higher ISQ values would be expected when using the Penguin RFA device.
