Effects of White Wine Vinegar on the Surface of Removable Partial Dentures: An In Vitro Study
Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze the in vitro effect of White Wine Vinegar as cleaning solution for on surface properties of Removable Partial Dentures' components
Methods: Thirty specimenscomposed of polymerized acrylic resin, artificial teeth and cobalt-chromium alloy for RPDs were prepared. Specimens were distributed randomly in 3 groups (n=10): distilled water (Negative Control), white wine vinegar (WWV) and CoregaTabs® (Positive Control). Before and after immersion, the analyses were performed: color stability with spectrophotometer; roughness with rugosimeter; macroscopic view to detect stains on metal; detection of mass changing with electronic analytical balance; and the difference in its surface composition with Raman spectroscopy. The data obtained was analyzed through ANOVA statistical test of repeated measurements and Tukey test (p<0.05)
Results: No statistically significant differences were observed between the groups regarding the roughness, color change and mass variation, and the presence of staining on the surface was not observed. In Raman spectroscopy, peaks of 2430 cm-1 after immersion in distilled water were observed, inferring possible formation of chromium carbonate.
Conclusions: It was concluded that WWV at 30% is a promising alternative for the cleaning of dentures, but studies are still needed to ensure its indication.
