Objectives: To develop an android application to monitor the diet of children and record diet on daily basis Methods: A longitudinal study was done for 7 days in 100 children in the age group of 2-6 years using cariometer- an android application . This app calculated the cumulative cariogenic score of the food consumed for 7 days . The cariogenic score is calculated by the cumulative weighted mean of the food consumed. The application of Stephen's curve is also included which reduces the score to zero if the rinsing practice is done within 20 minutes. A questionnaire was given to parents comparing the dietary habits , rinsing frequency after meals and brushing frequency pre and post use of the app. The cariogenic score given at the end of day 7 was also compared with day 1 score. Results: There was a significant decrease in the cariogenic score after the use of app from day one. The brushing frequency was increased to twice for 90 children as compared to only 20 children brushing twice a day. The rinsing after every meal was followed by 90 children post the use of app as compared to no child rinsing after every meal pre the use of app. Parents noted a significant improvement in the dietary habits after the use of app. Conclusions: An android application has been developed to successfully monitor diet and prevent caries. This app aims in creating a balance between the caries preventive and risk factors thereby aids in prevention of caries. Various oral hygiene measures are reinforced aiding in increasing the preventive factors
