Adhesion of Experimental One-bottle Adhesive Containing New Phosphoric Ester Monomer
Objectives: One-bottle adhesives become popular because of their simple clinical application. Recently an experimental one-bottle adhesive containing a new phosphoric acid ester monomer (CFA-2.0) was developed. The objective of this study was to evaluate its bond strength to dentin. Methods: Flat dentin surfaces were made in non-carious extracted human molars using a diamond saw and 600-grit SiC paper. The surfaces were treated with one of the three one-bottle self-etch adhesives; CFA-2.0 (Yamamoto Precious Metal, Kochi, Japan), iGOS-BOND (Yamamoto Precious Metal), and Clearfil Tri-S Bond ND Quick (Kuraray Noritake Dental, Tokyo, Japan), or a two-step self-etch adhesive; Clearfil SE bond (Kuraray Noritake Dental). The adhesives were applied to the surfaces according to the manufacturers’ instructions. A flowable resin composite (iGOS flow, Yamamoto Precious Metal) was incrementally built on the adhesive and light-cured. Following 24 h storage in distilled water at 37°C, the bonded specimens were sectioned and subjected to micro-tensile bond strength tests (bonded area: 1.0 mm x 1.0 mm, crosshead speed: 1.0 mm/min). Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (α=0.05). Results: The table lists means and S.D. in MPa. Conclusions: The dentin bond strength of an experimental one-bottle adhesive containing a new phosphoric acid ester monomer (CFA-2.0) was significantly higher than that of the existing one-bottle adhesive (iGOS-BOND), and was equivalent with that shown in Clearfil Tri-S Bond ND Quick which is successfully used in today’s clinic.
