Viability and Cytotoxicity in Cells With Wollastonite-coating on Ti6Al4V-alloy: Preliminary Study

Objectives: Citotoxicity and viability tests on dental pulp stem cells of sintered wollastonite coating on Ti6Al4V alloy samples varing power levels of CO2 laser incidence.
Methods:
1.Sorting of the Stem Cells from the Dental Pulp Cells (under the ethical standards).
2.Growth of the Stem Cells in cell culture flasks with DMEM culture medium, with 10% of bovine serum albumin (BSA) and antibiotic, and were incubated in 5% CO2 during 72 hours.
3.Samples with wollastonite coating (through CO2 laser) on Ti6Al4V alloy were placed in 6-well plate , then around 500,000 cells/well were placed then in each wells.

The experiment were carried out in 3 groups as follow:
Group 1 with n=3 (Positive control,Ti6Al4V + acid etching+ sandblasting).
Group 2 with n=3 (Negative control, lead).
Group 3 with n=3. The experimental samples with the wollastonite coating (varying the laser power ranging from 15 to 80 watts) were analyzed.
Results: After 7 days of cell culture medium was observed in the fluorescence microscope and it showed 80% of cell viability after being in contact with the different experimental conditions of the surface sample with a p-value ≤ 0.05 with Tukey analysis. The cytotoxicity test is in process.
Conclusions: The sintered wollastonite coating by CO2 Laser on Ti6Al4V alloy is a potential material to improve osseointegration and minimize pacient’s recovery time.
