Bond Strength of KATANA Zirconia UT to Enamel With Different Cements

Objectives: This in vitro study measured and compared the shear bond strength of KATANA Zirconia UT to enamel with 4 different cements, simulating zirconia laminate veneers.
Methods: Sixteen KATANA Zirconia UT(Kuraray Noritake) specimens were air-particle abraded and bonded to Enamel with 4 cements: Glass-ionomer cement (Ketac Cem Radiopaque Luting , 3M ESPE; Group GIC) self-curing resin cement (Panavia 21, Kuraray Noritake; Group PAN), self-adhesive resin cement (Panavia SA plus, Group PSA), and dual-cure MDP composite resin (Panavia V5, Group PV5) following manufactures instructions. Samples were subject to 10,000 thermal cycling before microshear bond strength was tested. Two-way ANOVA was applied for statistical analyses.
Results: All GIC samples failed pre-test during thermal cycling. There was no statistical significant difference among the three resin cements tested. Values [MPa] were for PAN 10.63 (0.72 SD), PSA 14.37 (1.82 SD), and PV5 13.91 (4.36 SD). Failure modes varied among groups.
Conclusions: The three resin-based cements performed similarly, while glass ionomer did not reveal any bond between KATANA Zirconia UT and Enamel.
