Restoration of Severely Discolored Anterior Tooth With a Zirconia Veneer: A Clinical Report

Objectives:
To observe the restorative and esthetic effect of the zirconia veneer used in severely discolored anterior teeth.
Methods: The zirconia veneer was used to restore the right upper central incisor which was severely discolored and undergone root canal therapy of a 43-year-old woman. The color difference value ΔE between the deep discolored teeth which before and after restored and the normal control teeth was measured to evaluate the esthetic effect of zirconia veneer restoration. At the same time, the marginal fit of zirconia veneers was checked by the standard of United States Public Health Service (USPHS). The integrity of the veneers was also examined.
Results: The color difference value ΔE between the deep discolored teeth after restored and the normal control teeth was less than 4.0 and can be accepted in clinic. At the 6-month follow-up, marginal integrity and esthetics were intact with no chipping of the restoration. According to the standard of USPHS, the marginal fit of the restored teeth was perfect (grade A).
Conclusions:
Zirconia veneer can be a good choice to restore severely discolored teeth and preserving most of the dental hard tissues.
