Objectives: Current self-adhesive resin cements contain acidic monomers for promoting adhesion. They are acidic and have low polymerization degree of conversion. The new self-adhesive resin cement has an alkaline pH. The purpose of this study is to measure shear bond strength and degree of conversion of the new alkaline self-adhesive resin cement. Methods: The pH of the new self-adhesive resin cement (TheraCem, Bisco) was tested on a moist pH Test Strip. Shear bond strength (n=5) on zirconia was tested using the ultradent jig method. The self-adhesive resin cement was placed on sandblasted zirconia surface through the ultradent jig mold (bonding area 4.5mm2). The cements were self-cured (15 min/37°C), stored in de-ionized water (37°C/24hours), and tested by Instron tester (crosshead-speed 1mm/min). Degree of conversion of self-adhesive cements was measured by FTIR-ATR up to 30 min at 25°C in dark. The data were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA and Student-t Tests. Results: Results are shown in Table 1 and Table 2. Conclusions: The new self-adhesive resin cement, TheraCem, has an alkaline pH after polymerization. It has a high bond strength to Zirconia and high degree of conversion.
