Adhesion of Resin Cements to Plasma-Treated Resin Blocks for CAD/CAM

Objectives: This study investigated the effect of atmospheric pressure plasma application on shear bond strength (SBS) of two resin cements to resin blocks for CAD/CAM.
Methods: Two resin blocks for CAD/CAM were tested: Enamic (Vita Zahnfabrik) and Lava Ultimate (3M ESPE). Resin blocks were submitted to the following treatments: manufacturers’ instructions (MAI); argon plasma (30s) (ARP) and argon plasma + adhesive (APA). After treatments, silicon molds were positioned over treated resin block surfaces and resin cements (Panavia V5, Kuraray Noritake and RelyX Ultimate, 3M ESPE) were placed into hole of molds to form a resin cylinder (1.5mm diameter and 1.0mm height) after light activation (n=5). Resin blocks were stored in distilled water for 24 h and tested in universal testing machine (1.0mm/min). SBS data were analyzed by three-way ANOVA and Tukey test (α=0.05).
Results: The surface treatment of Lava Ultimate did not affect the SBS of both resin cements, while for Enamic treatment suggested by manufacturer yielded the highest SBS for Panavia V5.
Conclusions: The ARP or APA showed no significant difference compared to MAI, except for Panavia V5 bonded to Enamic.
